Arsenic in Rice. Inorganic arsenic is a class I carcinogen and is present in food and water in varying amounts depending upon geography. There is no question that when ingested over the long-term, it can have adverse effects on health. It is concerning that there is currently no federal limit for arsenic in rice and rice products, especially since high concentrations can be present in some rice-based foods and drinks widely used in infants and young children. In fact, one serving of rice cereal or rice pasta could put a child over what is considered the safe weekly amount of arsenic. I think the following article and point system created by Consumer Reports can be VERY helpful for health care professionals, parents and anyone interested in limiting exposure. Know where your rice is coming from and which type is best (brown rice may not always be better than white!) consumerreports.org/cro/magazine/2015/01/how-much-arsenic-is-in-your-rice/index.htm
