As Brown University celebrates its 250th anniversary, Im preparing - TopicsExpress

As Brown University celebrates its 250th anniversary, Im preparing to celebrate my pseudo-15-year reunion (Im not technically a member of the Brown University Class of 1999, as I stuck around for an extra year to pick up an extra degree). Now working for an education technology company, I find its an interesting time to ponder the value of a college education. I feel that I got a lot out of mine, and as I brag on Brunonia a bit, I think its safe to say that many of my peers got something out of theirs. Hoping to see many of these folks this weekend. Elbert Ventura is ensuring that the font of good policy ideas never stops at Democracy: A Journal of Ideas; Jesse Kocher (alongside Matt Lerner) is changing the way we think about moving around our cities at Walk Score; Dani Simons is doing the same for New Yorkers at Citi Bike; Heather Klemick is applying an economics background to ensuring that we have clean air and water at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; Lee Drutman is ensuring that we know everything we can about the influence of money and politics at the Sunlight Foundation; Michael Castelle is destroying science at The University of Chicago; Keith Adams is turning Facebook into an operating system; Jesse Chan-Norris invented the blog and has known how the Internet is feeling (see Imood) for a long time; Joel Grossman is making us safer based on where we and our loved ones are at Location Labs; Seth Coe-Sullivan is inventing things at the speed of light at QD Vision; Scott Klemmer is changing the way we interact with computing technology. Also looking forward to seeing Dale Bertrand, Agra Monagan, Emilie Stander, Emily Coe-Sullivan, Kim Bertrand, Molly Price, Emmanuelle Salvatore, Matthew Berland, Philip Levis, Gideon Mann, Michal Albanese DiMiceli, Maia Weinstock, Rajiv Ramaiah, Pia Owens, Laura Brem Silberman, and many others to rediscover how their college degree has added value to their lives. Will miss Jennie Wolff and Whitney Boon, but I get to see them here at home.
