As Democrats we will all praise this as a win for LGBTQ friends and family. While, some of us might try to take credit for our contributions to turning the tides, we do not have to. We live the fight every day! On January 21, 2013, I stood on the mall in our nation’s capital and heard President Obama proclaim, for the first time, that “if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal.” To see marriage equality embraced by a sitting president was monumental. To have our nation’s supreme legal power dismiss discriminatory laws that have prevented progress on equality was a sign that our work and living our lives has made a difference.
