As Emis mom I have seen some harsh comments. I was taken aback by a few. So I felt compelled to write a note on a certain post. Im going to share it here. The general complaint was she was unoriginal, and made reference that she was making fun of her southern roots, imitating Dolly Parton ( who she loves) but does not count as her major influence. She is 10 she cant defend herself. I as her mother read your posts, filter and allow her to read and post at will. I dont add too or take away unless its in her best interest ( some posts are to vile to read).... Anyway here is my response . ...........For the naysayers Shes not for everyone and shes apt to tell you that if you take the time to ask her. As her mother I understand the controversy. Shes a strong fierce young lady with the most complex mind Ive met. She knows her heart and writes what she will despite my caution that others wont understand her love of the classic Louvin Brothers and the Carter Family type ballads and the gut wrenching moan/rasp of a person 3 times her age. Love her or not she has a heart for her Appalachian heritage and I admire her as a fellow songwriter. When she poured out Black Sunday 35 ( the song ) in front of me after a lesson I taught on the dust bowl she earned my respect. We dont make her play/sing/write but we do support her. Shes not making fun of her roots. She embraces it and has no idea of the stigma attached to hillbilly music. Shes never been exposed to that... She is as genuine as can be. Take the time to have a conversation with her before you dismiss her as a novelty. She would never judge you so harshly... Well unless you were a pop country artist. Then Id have to say she probably would....Mother Hamilton
