As I was driving up to my house at almost 1:30 in the morning I see a guy pulling a blue child cart that you pull behind a bicycle which is very similar to one I bought this summer. I pass the guy and pull into my driveway then notice mine is missing from the spot where it has sat most of the summer near my Trooper vehicle. I pulled back out of my driveway and tracked the guy down. As I pulled up to him I noticed he had an old dog that was limping, both were cold and shivering and he had a backpack that had a 30 pound bag of dog food in it. I rolled my window down and asked him where he got the cart from. He told me he got it from around the corner near the trash dumpster. I had to admit it was near the trash although it was just coincidence. I told him it was mine and asked what his intentions were with it. He told me he was going to outfit a cart for his dog so he could pull him around and at night flip it over and make a dog house for his only friend. I noticed that he was snacking on the dog food in his backpack and I asked him if thats what he was eating. He said yes and told me thats all he has so they share. I asked him to come to my car window and he was a bit apprehensive, but he approached. I told him he could have the cart as long as he is being honest with me and going to use it for his dog as he explained. He couldnt stop apologizing for taking it without asking. I told him it was now his property. Before we parted ways I reached over and grabbed the three bags of groceries I purchased tonight from Carrs. The man broke down and was so appreciative. It was such an unusual circumstance and although our contact was less than 3 minutes it has had a profound impact on me. I have to admit that I learned tonight that I need to remember how fortunate I am and small things can have a huge impact on people who may be struggling just to survive!
