As Iraq crumbles, the peshmerga (those who face death), Kurdish - TopicsExpress

As Iraq crumbles, the peshmerga (those who face death), Kurdish fighters, have rolled back ISIS from their territory. The Kurdish people live in a region known as Kurdistan (note they are not an independent people) that runs along the borders of northern Iraq, Syria, and Turkey. They are unified, democratic, and have been fighting for decades for their own nation. The Obama administration seems to want the Kurds as an ally against ISIS, but they dont want them to succeed from Iraq, for anyone buying oil illegally sold from Kurdistan is punished. The Kurds are the face of the resistance in the Middle East, and President Barzani has called for an independent state. They have fought, bled, and died for their land that has been ever in control of powers that either dont recognize their autonomy or actively suppress them. History is being made in the Middle East. I hope everyone is paying attention. newyorker/magazine/2014/09/29/fight-lives
