As North Carolina Public Radio - WUNC reports, the story behind our states drop in unemployment is of less support to get workers through joblessness and more workers who have lost hope of finding work. People who are currently receiving benefits are eligible for up to 20 weeks, it used to be 26 weeks. Now, with an unemployment rate of between 6 and 6.5 percent, workers who lose their jobs after July 1, 2014 can expect a maximum of 14 weeks of unemployment benefits.
