As a baby my Mom would rock me to sleep while slanging this - TopicsExpress

As a baby my Mom would rock me to sleep while slanging this song....like every other baby in our family. When Katherine was born we brought her to our home in Kuwait when she was 3 months old. Often she struggled with going to sleep. Like my Mom, I sang this song for her. Little did she know of the tradition that had been in our family for generations. While I could not sing it like Alan Jackson, or even my Mom, Katherine loved it and always fell asleep in my arms. When Im gone from this earth I want but one song sang at my departure. This is it. If you are from the southern U.S. You know this song well. Few people know that it was written by a former slave ship captain, at least the lyrics. No one knows who wrote the words...Im sure it was some mother or grandmother rocking her babies to sleep. Many think the words were part of the Negro spiritual we southerners grew up with. I dont know nor do I care. Im just thankful for the wonderful person who came up with the most beautiful song in the world. If you have a baby you are trying to get to sleep, try this song, even if you cant sing it will perform miracles. I had the most wonderful Mom in the world...now I have the most wonderful daughter on this planet. I hope she sings this song to her babies and thinks of her Dad who loves her so very much. Listen and enjoy........
