As a black man I do not find the attempt to DRESS UP AS A - TopicsExpress

As a black man I do not find the attempt to DRESS UP AS A CHARACTER to be considered Blackface. Im offended that, apparently, no one knows what Blackface was! It was to humiliate, stereotype, and de-humanize African-Americans, not pay homage to a personality (fictional or real) that you admire. As far as Im concerned, Julianne Hough most likely did it because NO ONE WOULD HAVE KNOWN WHO SHE WAS OTHERWISE! A jump suit and weird hair-do doesnt scream Crazy Eyes . . . at least not to me. Then again, I never saw the show, so I wouldve been lost anyway. But at least I would have had the notion that perhaps she was trying to be somebody and not just a random inmate (or herself as a celebrity inmate- which I initially thought after seeing the photo before reading any articles). Also, with all these other celebrities, they need not dawn face make-up because their outfits were so recognizable that it didnt warrant it- except with Ellen. Again, I dont watch her show regularly, and for all I know, she couldve been poking fun at Elvira. Stop being so damn sensitive, you effin babies! If its stereotypes that theyre portraying, then sure, lets say its bad. But if its a specific character who has no discernible uniform, then perhaps it may be required.
