As a storm develops and grows, deciding on targeting on that - TopicsExpress

As a storm develops and grows, deciding on targeting on that certain storm comes down instincts and decision making. Thoughts come into mind and said aloud "Should we go for this storm or wait for another storm to develop?" A decision made either way can change how the chase ends up. Missing a storm of the century is grueling for a storm chaser but when conditions look volatile on the day of May 31st, 2013 in Western Oklahoma. Most chasers decide to capture what would end up to be a record-breaking but deadly tornado near El Reno Oklahoma. This tornado was a very unusual and chaotic in nature. Developing from a multi-vortex into a wedge in a matter of seconds was awe inspiring and incredible. When a direction shift of this tornado is unexpected happens, it becomes a nightmare for all chasers in the path. After this day passes, we find out that Tim Samaras, Paul Samaras, and Carl Young lost their lives due to the El Reno tornado. A point is made that is spoken about- "Chase or not to chase". I know after losing these three, minds are given a second thought. In all of our minds, we knew that Tim Samaras, Car Young and Paul Samaras wanted us to continue and further develop new technologies to enhance warning lead times and further save lives. -Steven Coy
