As beneficial genuine social justice is for the world I feel as though a lot of the people avidly involved in it (via social media) let ideologies perpetuated by crowds on social networks consume them to the point that they seem to not be able to formulate opinions of their own. A couple friends were just discussing this and it seems that as a result of their own lack of individual passion, artistic ability, general skill, or depth within their own personality leads them to immerse themselves in radical social justice activism purely to gain a sense of identification and safety despite not taking the time to think about their beliefs for themselves. It seems as though people would rather militantly shroud the internet in their agenda (as if thats actually effecting the real world) rather than develop a sense of empathy or understanding for things that they consider problematic. Ideas are regurgitated rather than carefully thought out and activism becomes yelling and arrogance rather than an actual help to society. And all thats accomplished is the repression of personality traits that they dont understand but wont take the time to because their cult-like mentality just tells them theyre doing right. As youve seen Ive had run ins with people not understanding the harmlessness of my fantasies as well as those of my friends and would rather drown me in their dogma than listen and try to gain an understanding of my side (or anyones side in my boat) just to fuel their self-righteousness and unwarranted ego. Its weird to think that people would crush harmless things they dont understand just to make themselves feel better and safer. Theres certainly nothing beneficial in sticking ones nose in things they choose to not comprehend. These activists sound a lot like their oppressors. Not that I havent mentioned the second half of this post before but the first half is more so me understanding why it happens (thanks to my friends).
