As far as home defense/self defense I normally like a projectile that will hold together in a number of objects (auto glass, walls, car doors exc.) and still effectively stop an intruder with effective projectile weight and penetration. That is why I call on a soft point projectile so often (that is why I also suggest a soft point as well.) The soft point offers a controlled, mushrooming type expansion that gives great disruption of tissue, and great penetration through bone, as well as light barriers. Normally a soft point is called on for hunting game due to its ability to shatter bone and carry its self reliably to vital organs. The same works on a human aggressor. This is the PPU (Made in Serbia) Soft Point 55gr. 223 Remington. It is a superb round for a relatively cheap price. It offers sealed projectile and primer, annealed brass and a very quality soft point. Accuracy is good (around 1 @ 100yds), clean burning, very consistent. It is quite a bit cheaper than other soft points on the market, but offers the same performance one would expect from the other, more expensive brands. Definitely worth a look for those interested in picking up a great self defense cartridge on a budget.
