As irreligious as I usually am, I love listening to bhajans and chants and sufi kawwali and Gregorian chants and all kinds of religious/spiritual music - there is something uplifting about it, and it always makes me feel nice me when I listen to my playlist upon waking up. I was listening to MS Subbalakshmis Hanuman Chalisa this morning, and it was a fantastic rendition, very different from traditional north Indian bhajans, though I know zilch about music and its technical details. Later, it set me thinking. Was my choice influenced in some way by my cultural belief that Tuesdays are relevant to a particular deity? Is that religion, or is that superstition? Where do you personally draw the line separating these two? Where do you place spirituality, and how do you define it? #ThinkingThinking
