As one of my friends reminded us, it was 30 years ago today that the horrible tornadoes when through that night. I am so thankful that God spared so many lives that day when he let the tornadoes go through at night. Half our school was taken away which was the end with 5th through 8th graders. I remember the thankfulness and the heartache we felt as the teachers gathered that morning. It was a long year the rest of the year because we had to double up in classrooms. Our section was 4 classrooms divided by partial petitions and we had to double up the kindergartens. Can you imagine 48 kindergartens and another teacher and assistant in one room and the same thing with the other two kindergarten classes which left the other 2 rooms for 2 4th grade classes. The 7th and 8th graders had to be bused elsewhere and we even had to bussed to the lunchroom every day. By the end of the year, tension was rising even among friends because of overcrowding BUT, BY THE GRACE OF GOD WE MADE IT!!!! We did lose a family of 6 of which I had taught Sabrina in kindergarten. Heartbreaking. Thank you again God for the protecting arms you had around our West Bertie Students and Staff.
