As some of you know, I tried to help a troubled lady who ended up rummaging through my personal belongings in my car this morning. Im appalled at my own reaction. Instead of putting myself in her shoes and seeing this as a sign of desperation, I reacted with immediate anger that she disrespected my possessions and my efforts to assist her. In this case, I was the one in a better circumstance. If I had empathized more quickly and called the cops to keep a look out for her straight away, maybe shed be getting help right now. I dont want anyone to try and make me feel better about this, I just want to remember it and to remember to do better next time. Any of us could end up being that woman, and I should have acted with more grace and authority than I did. This has been a more important learning experience than I could have thought, and I am humbled.
