As we proceed through the book of John, we are about to encounter a very strange character, also named John in the English rendering. This John, called the Baptist, was just a man, but according to our Lord, he was the greatest of all men born of woman. He was sent by God, to go before The Lord Jesus first advent, to be a witness and prepare the way for the entrance of the manifest Kingdom of God on earth, and Jesus Christ its coming King. He preached repentance, and it was God-ordained as the only preparation for receiving Him. It is the same in preparation of Jesus advent into our lives. We are to be the vessels of Gods kingdom on earth, with Jesus as Lord, Master and King in residence. To leave out repentance in the ministry of the gospel, is to negate the gospel altogether. It is the only way ordained by God. Faithful ministers (witnesses) know this and teach it. It is not a salvation by works teaching; dont make the mistake of thinking that. It is the humbling of ourself before a Holy God and submitting to Him as King. Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand!
