As we remember our own gallant son, Busani Ncube, we hereby publish one of the original stories he penned for the Southern Star news magazine: Njelele saga: The Untold Story BY BUSANI NCUBE A secret group working with President Robert Mugabe has been fingered as having been responsible for directing hordes of ex-Fife Brigade members to visit the Njelele shrine where they conducted burial and cleansing rituals, The Southern Star News magazine can exclusively reveal. The group, Dare Re Chimurenga, is said to have convened several meetings starting from last year where the plan to visit the rainmaking shrine was hatched, sources inside Zanu PF say. Dare Re- Chiumurenga is made up of a group of original Zanu PF members of Zezuru tribe who broke away from PF Zapu in 1963 to form PF Zanu the house of the late Ndabaningi Sithole – purely on tribal grounds. When the scam broke out and was exposed by the then Southern Star newspaper, the visitors defended their visit, claiming it had been sanctioned by the highest offices in the land. It has since emerged that the visitors had been given the green light by the Dare Re Chimurenga- a secret group said to be part of Mugabe’s consultants- to visit Njelele shrine and seek to appease the spirits of those mercilessly killed during the post liberation war and the Gukurahundi era. Sources within the Zanu PF politburo say it all started when Mugabe was advised by the Mozambican government to collect “parcels” that had now started to create problems for the Mozambicans. “What we know is that there were a spate of problems in Mozambique in as far as spirits and traditions in that country are concerned. “When traditional leaders were consulted over why there were these problems, they told their government that the problems were caused by the spirits of the people who were killed while undergoing training in Mozambique during the Zimbabwe liberation struggle. They were also told that some of the problems would go away once the bones or remains of those that were bombed by the white colonial settler regime were removed from Mozambique and buried in Zimbabwe,” disclosed a Zanu PF source It was at this instance, according to sources, that the Dare Re Chimurenga group convened meetings and agreed that the remains in Mozambique were supposed to be collected and a place was to be found where they would be interred. “That group of Njelele visitors, comprising of Zanu PF activists and ex-Fife Brigade members, was set up by Zanu PF people and funded by the same people who worked with business figures to organize and fund the group’s activities,” the source said. It is also alleged that after the remains were collected, the spirit medium who was recruited from Mozambique, identified as Tenzi NeHoreka to lead the process of the remains’ re-burial, said he had been advised “by the Gods” and spirit mediums that the bones should be interred “very close to the Njelele shrine” as it was where those that were killed “would be appeased.” “It is at this moment when the issue of the ex-Fife Brigade members who had all along been troubled by the effects of their actions during the Gukurahundi era arose and again the spirit medium said he had been shown that the ex-Gukurahundi members would be well cleansed at the Njelele shine,” another source said. “It is also understood that the move to dump the bones at Njelele was as part of efforts to anger the spirits at Njelele so that there would be famine in the region. “This defiling of the sacred Njelele shrine would result in hunger, disease outbreaks, high rate of deaths, no rainfall, and eventually a powerless Matabeleland region,” said the source. Further investigations by this news magazine revealed that there had been prior advice by the Dare Re Chimurenga that power in the Zimbabwean political sphere was now destined for the Matabeleland and Midlands provinces as opposed to the usual Mashonaland and Manicaland provinces. “The warning, again, came from the inyangas that are usually consulted by the Dare Re Chimurenga who said they were told by the spirits that power, after Mugabe exits from the Zimbabwean picture, would now move over from the Mashonaland provinces to the Midlands and Matabeleland provinces. “The Dare (Re Chimurenga) was not happy with the revelation and thus sought ways to counter that development. Which is why they settled for Njelele because their spirit mediums revealed that most of the power lay in the Njelele shrine and defiling it would cause it (the Njelele shrine) to be angry and revolt against those in Matabeleland and Midlands provinces,” the source said. Ironically, after the visits by the “defiling crew”, one of the rocks at the Matopos National Park, which is an attraction to most tourists visiting the park, fell from its lodging/ position where it had been for decades. Most traditionalists claimed this was a sign that the Njelele shrine was angered by the unsanctioned visits. Informed sources at the Njelele shrine told the Southern Star News Magazine that the Njelele visitors went to the homestead of Njelele shrine gatekeeper, Solifa Ncube, a.k.a Khulu Thobela and lied to him that theirs was a legitimate operation and they were in the company of the son of the late Vice President Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo. With them, they had a man called Charles Nkomo who masqueraded as a “lost and found” son of the veteran nationalist. Our sources say the new found son to the late Dr Nkomo seemed not to know the area but had earlier claimed to hail from there. It was after Joshua Nkomo’s legitimate son, Sibangilizwe held a meeting at Blue Lagoon Pub & Restaurant in Bulawayo where the uncouth activities of the Joshua Nkomo family claimant were unmasked. Upon hearing the furtive adventures of his “new brother” – Sibangilizwe sent people to investigate and they found that Charles Nkomo was a just a charlatan hired by the ex-Zanla and Gukurahundi soldiers to dupe the Njelele gate-keepers. Sibangilizwe quickly sent word to the Njelele gatekeepers and Chief Masuku disowning the “new brother.” Further, we exclusively reveal that one Monica Nguni, a concubine to Zanu PF politburo member and youth boss, Absalom Sikhosana was paid a staggering US$600 per day stipend for accompanying and assisting the Njelele defilers. Mguni told Chief Mathema that she was making money and had “many ways of making money”. Mguni, who stays in Bulawayo’s Nkulumane suburb, refused to speak to The Southern Star News Magazine, threatening unspecified action and that terrible things would befall the magazine’s journalists. “Angifuni ukukhuluma lawe, ungumntwana wena. Wazini ngeNjelele. Uthunywe ngubani. Heee…uzangibona fanami. Buyela masinya lapho ovela khona, wehlukane lami. Ulani loSikhosana, uyayazi iZanu PF nje? ” she said before switching off her phone.
