At 5:30 PM this evening, firefighters and paramedics were dispatched for an apartment fire in the 7900blk of Mayfair Cr in Ellicott City. First arriving units found a two story condominium complex with a small fire burning on the exterior of the building. Further investigation revealed that fire had extended into the walls and that there were significant fire conditions in the floor between the first and second floors. Firefighters had to tear up floor boards and break through walls to make access to flames in four different condos. Thermal imaging cameras (TIC) were used to check for fire extension throughout the rest of the building. It took approximately 25 minutes to bring the fire under control and another hour to extinguish all the hot spots. Seven residents have been displaced but there were no injuries.
