At Maluti is located the ancient shrine of goddess Mouliksha (মৌলীক্ষা), an anthropomorphic mundamurti smeared with lac and vermilion and facing west...incidentally, Mouliksha icon is not unique in any manner...such icons are very common in several locations right from Andhra to southern Odisha to shrines on the western bank of Bhagirathi in Bengal... These observations essentially point to a common or similar culture and / or belief systems, which may not have been brahminical Hindu essentially... Credit goes to Satyasri Ukil Barishkar
