At approximately 10 miles roundtrip, Finch Lake is such a great snowshoe destination from Wild Basin. The trail was well stomped and easy to follow. The sections of trail that were burned during the fire of 1978 allow unique views of Mt Meeker, Chiefs Head, and Longs Peak. The trees were quite talkative as the winds blew them all around; a splendid wilderness symphony of creeks, squeaks, and cracks! (I have to say, a couple of notes really grabbed my attention and put me on high alert, to say the least.) The views from the lake were limited as the mountains were covered with clouds and blowing snow, but the challenge of the hike made the trip worthwhile. This was a great hike and I recommend it to anyone seeking a fun experience in the Wild Basin area. Happy trails everyone!! Adam A.
