At first as friends we were deeply concerned when one in our circle came and complained that a colleague of ours was eating his goat openly. He confessed that he was deeply hurt and was contemplating finishing him and then killing himself. This were very serious allegations against one of ours and we knew that it took guts for someone to come out in the open in such a situation. He confessed to a group of us, the onus was on us to go and warn the guilty party as we didnt want bloodshed. We also felt that it wasnt right for one of us in the trenches, to go and spoil another ones family. Its disgusting, immoral and absolutely wrong. A delegation of 4 of us was picked to go warn him. I think this other man suspected what we had come to tell him when we called him to The Blues restaurant one evening and he found 4 of us. We told him the allegations by one of our friend. He confessed that indeed it was true, he accepted that it was a regrettable mistake and henceforth had stopped the affair with this other mans wife. That was 11yrs ago. A few months later, our guilty friend who had tall relatives soon landed a job with KRA and kufumbua na kufumbua, he was rolling in cash. Driving the latest car models into Kisii and overtly showing off the affair with this other mans wife. You will find them in lovers parlour which is The Nile restaurant in this town, deeply snogging this other mans wife in the tented area where the in laws of this other man could see him from down below in the highway. One day, about 3yrs ago I confronted this other guilty friend of ours. It is was at the grand opening of the then trendy Gesonso pub which I forget its name since I have not been there for years. I asked him ; Yaa, why do you chase other mens wife?,cant you see all this single college and university girls who have flooded Kisii recently?, with your money, you could own 10. He revealed to me that college girls didnt please him at all. Again, there were advantage in having an affair with a married woman such as the adrenaline rush of the chase and hiding, the fear of getting caught etc. Besides, they all knew their HIV Status and so he wasnt worried of getting infected. I asked him whether he had taken this other woman and the husband to VCT. He asked me what kind of question was that, didnt I see that the couples children were all healthy?. I left him. The other man whose goat is being eaten isnt complaining anymore. Perhaps he has eaten Kababa as most people keep gossiping in this town, or he has come to terms with his life. However, he sometimes put a show of violence, which is probably meant to excite this other man they are in polyandary relationship with. After all that other man confessed to me that he enjoyed the adrenalin rush of being chased. Like a few weeks ago, the man was informed I think by one of his relatives that his wife was seen with this other man in a famous hotel out of town. He rushed there and went straight to the parking lot where he vandalised this other mans Mercedes by breaking its windows and windscreen. The hotel security took him to the police station, this other man came and released him from the police station stating that he wasnt interested in pressing charges. I have seen this other man driving a red Vitz, I suspect that it is the wife who was bought by the benefactor, the man looks guilty though, almost like he is ashamed of what is happening and that he had told us initially but then such is life, you follow the way its taking you.
