At last nights board meeting, Dr. Kahan Sablo was voted in to the vacant board seat formerly filled by Dee Dee Kushner. Mr. Buto gave a presentation on the districts test scores from last year. The younger kids continue with the PSSAs and the high school kids with the Keystones, although the PSSAs will follow a different test format this year to align with the implementation of the PA CORE. The current 10th grade class will be the first class that will have to pass the Keystone exams in order to graduate. Fifth grade is the year we are seeing the most common dip in scores, possibly because it is a transition year and also that the test becomes more challenging at that level according to Mr. Buto. More teachers and administrators are utilizing the Performance Plus software making it easier to run analysis for the district. Teachers are also more readily utilizing classroom diagnostic tools that identify strengths and weaknesses for individual students as well as a class as a whole. This provides greater opportunity to plan and implement curriculum. I am very encouraged that the district is so data driven, assessing and planning appropriately for continued improvements which greatly benefits our students. Other information presented: Enrollment, which has been steady with the district overall only being down 3 students for the 2014-15 school year. The district is also being proactive in regards to preventing any spreading of the Enterovirus D68- visit the district website if you would like to learn more. The board also voted to approve the hiring of a new head baseball coach, Mr. Mike Dombkowski.
