At least 48 minutes After a grueling season marked by records, after trouncing their respective opponents during the play-offs on their way to the finals, after 6 long hard fought games which would be remembered by the classic Game 6 instead of the blow-out games 1 - 5, it all came down to at least 48 minutes of pure Basketball. The Miami Heat had posted the 2nd highest winning streak in NBA history during the regular season. The San Antonio Spurs disposed all competition effortlessly during the play-offs. Both teams has not tasted defeat twice in a row since time immemorial. The first 5 games of the Championship Series showed how both teams can come back from games wherein they were blown to pieces. Game 6 showed that it’s not over till it’s over. When everybody thought that it will all end there, a lot of fans, foes and friends alike were surprised to find a Game 7. Everything that was written prior to this paragraph was all history. All achievements that both Heat and Spurs Team, made prior to this day, are no longer of consequence. It all boils down to a winner take all game for the crown. It all boils down to what both can do and must do in at least 48 minutes. Let’s try to see what both teams have and what they must have. Miami Heat just got a came from behind victory on their home turf. They have the crowd at their backs. On account of these, they have the psychological edge going to Game 7 and take the crown. Coach Erik has one of the Biggest 3 in NBA in his team, not to mention the best player who had probably played basketball in all NBA History. He has a support cast that could give quality basketball at any given time. Allen, Chalmers, Miller, Bird Man and Haslem. Miami to have thebetter edge on this game should make the fans go wild. It means that they should start strong. A 3 points shot or a slam as the first basket would be a very good start. Lebron James should start where he finished from Game 6. Owning the game and making mince meat of the opposition. Wade and Bosh should be on top of their game. The game should be a run and gun type where Miami is best known. Open Basketball complete the famous pick and roll pattern of the Big 3. With younger players, they have fresher legs to outrun the opposition. Coach Erik should be able to use at least an 8 man rotation with Miller, Andersen, Allen, Chalmers and Haslem together with James, Wade and Bosh. All 8 players can score, defend and create havoc. Coach Erik should make use of his support cast and not center all his play on the big 3. He could even make James, Wade and Bosh as the decoys and involve the other players more. If all 8 players delivers, Miami will erupt with Miami Beach as the center of Celebration amongst basketball fan in the whole of USA. The Spurs in contrary literally have their backs on the wall. Aside from hordes of fans who would want to maim them at the slightest provocation, they had blown a won game in the last 28 seconds of the 4th quarter not to mention choking during Overtime. If the Spurs would lose this series, this would always be remembered by SAS fans as the crown that got away. Despite all the odds, the Spurs may still have something on their sleeves. They are 4 – 0 in championship series. Coach Pop has not lost a championship series since I could remember. He also have a big 3 of his own. Tim, Manu and Tony could spark the team. However, for the Spurs to win Game7, they should not fall into a trap of running with the Miami Heat. They must play a waiting game. Execute the plays and pass the ball around. Coach Pop should realize that he does not have enough ICBM on his arsenal to challenge the Heat on this category. 3 man rotation defense on James. Green, Neal and Leonard could do the trick. Di-aw was a good match up for Wade in Game 5 and he could repeat the combination. To have a better chance, Manu should wake up and contribute. His record in Game 5 made them win and look what happened to Game 6 when he was caught sleeping again. And where was Green in Game 6? If the Spurs would like to celebrate in San Antonio, they need to revive this player from the coma he was on Game 6. They may not have the triangle of the mighty Bulls of Micheal Jordan, at least they have a solid offense play who could hit both in and out of the paint. With at least 48 minutes of Basketball left for this NBA season, the Miami Heat is in a better position to take its 2nd crown in comparison to Spurs taking its 5th. Aside from all the plays and strategies that both coaches and teams that they had prepared for this game, the biggest factor will be the man Himself, Lebron James. James should have realized by now that his team goes where he goes. He had proven himself that if dominates the game and start focusing on playing basketball instead of choking, he is unstoppable. If he wants to be remembered as one of the Greates Basketball Players in History, instead of just being one of the Best Basketball Player in history then he needs to take this game by the horn and make pork chops or steaks out of it.
