At the weekend during my routine inspection I discovered some QCs. - TopicsExpress

At the weekend during my routine inspection I discovered some QCs. Ive recently begun to prepare for winter by putting on Apiguard and moving the QE between the brood and brood and half boxes in order for the treatment to work better. I still have some brood (capped) in the half brood box as I was waiting for these to hatch and move down, then let the bees backfill with honey. The QCs however were not in the brood box but in the brood and a half box which is above the QE and the Apiguard tray. Ive found the queen in the brood box with three full frames of eggs and it all looks very good in there. She couldnt have got up through the queen excluder as this is also proved by no other eggs or uncapped brood in the half brood. Could her pheremone signature have been masked by the Apiguard? Im also presuming because the bees had brood in the half brood but no queen they wondered where she was so made emergency QCs with eggs brought up through the QE from the brood box. Ive torn the QCs down put an extra super on (moved QE back up to give her the full Brood and half) and crossed my fingers!
