At tonights council meeting, Mayor Armano, and Berlin Police Chief Michael DeLorenzo presented Sgt Michael Kernan with an award, an award for going above and beyond the call of duty. On October 17th, 2014 Sgt Kernan was on routine patrol while a call for house fire came in, the caller reported heavy smoke and fire. As Sgt Kernan arrived on location, he ran into the home, with total disregard for his own life and safety, running through the fire filled and smoke filled home he found a women in a bedroom asleep, He then escorted the women out of the home, due to his acts she didnt require medical attention. This act from Sgt Kernan has saved the life of one of Our Berlin Borough residents, Sgt Kernan also acts as the Deputy Chief of the Berlin Fire Rescue. A great job by Sgt Kernan, as we are lucky to have him serving our wonderful town!
