Atif Mohammad visited the fall kick-off meeting of ACM at Colorado State College on Wednesday, September 11th to give a presentation on Big Data and Cloud Computing. The following is the beginning of his presentation: Big Data is just another term or it is something that is catching up for over 5 decades of technology that we have witnessed. The underlying architecture is an important most phenomena to understand, without which, it is just like you do not know swimming and have by an accident dropped in ocean from a cruise that you were enjoying few moments ago. This ocean can be understood as Cloud, where Cloud Computing allows us to handle this Big Data, using SaaS, PaaS and IaaS. Big Data and underlying architecture is vital to know, you might ask why? and this is a valid question, the good answer is that we have seen a burst of datacenters around the globe for Google, Yahoo, Amazon and Microsoft in major as well as there are other players in this game also are trying to win more customers, almost on everyday basis by starting up and providing both storage, colocation and Cloud compute and storage facilities.
