Attended a law seminar at University of Richmond yesterday. The most jarring presentation concerned human trafficking, aka, the exploitation of vulnerability. An estimated 27 million people are trafficked per year. Thats a figure that resonates. I was guilty of assuming most of this stuff happens overseas, say Indonesia. Who knew that in the US alone, every year over 100,000 children disappear via trafficking? Or, that in Henrico County (5 minutes away), every single month 5 or 6 arrests are made for human trafficking? Who knew the State of VA is known as one of the dirty dozen states who have the worst legislation re human trafficking? Ever heard of Skip Parties? Me neither--until yesterday. Predators target the most vulnerable kids right in our schools, shopping malls and via on-line media. For more info and what we can all do to help fight human trafficking, visit: Polarisproject.org .
