Attended the annual dinner to honor Southeast Fire & Rescue Department volunteer firefighters for their service. We were honored to sit at a table with Chief John Wiese, Sheila Churchill Grummert, Rick Whiting and Steve Schneider. Before dinner began, a call came in announcing a rollover accident at 190th & Holdrege. Approximately 10 volunteers responded to the mutual aid call, leaving spouses and dates. It felt odd to start dinner, but the spouses and dates continued activities while their loved ones do their jobs. Congratulations Rick on the 35 years of service with the department. Most importantly, congratulations to all on the year with no injuries. While watching the video of the year, the most somber segment was the turnout of firefighters at the funeral service for the firefighter in Weeping Water, an important reminder that safety is so critical. Thanks to all the firefighters AND their families for their dedication to the community. You all ROCK!
