August 2013 : Independence day 2013 at Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir, Bangalore North touched the hearts and emotions of each and every one present on the occasion. We were privileged to have with us. Sri Siva Kanchibotla the administrator of the Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir Trust. We also had Ms. Sowmya and Ms. Shobha Ganapathy from the Trust and Sri. Radhakrishna Naik a very senior AOL teacher blessed the occasion by his presence. Our school is located amidst a residential area. Our neighbours have always been very supportive and helpful. They have helped us grow. The neighbours at time face certain unpleasant situations with a school in the neighbourhood. The noise, traffic, usage of mikes for practice sessions, broken window panes etc., it was decided that we shall invite all our neighbours and honour them and express our gratitude to them. Hence the Independence day celebrations at school was appropriately named “SADBHAVANA”. Students of calls IX went with beautiful cards and gifts and personally invited the neighbours. The programme began with flag hoisting, followed by the rendering of the National Anthem and the flag song and then began the programme that was like reliving the turning points in the freedom movement of Indian History. It began with jubilation on having attained Independence. Then light was thrown on how infighting began soon after Independence. Scenes from the Jallianwalabagh massacre and Quit India movement were enacted by the children. These two acts took everyone back on the timeline. A child dressed like Gandhi walked around the ground with his followers to the tune of “Raghupathi Raghava Rajaram”. This literally brought tears in everyone. A couple of patriotic songs were sung which awakened the feeling of patriotism is one and all present. The highlight, the grand finale was a song dedicated to the neighbours which was specially composed for the occasion by our music teacher, Mr Saitejas As the song was being sung, incidents pertaining to the context was enacted on the stage. One neighbours our special guests felt very touched. One of the neighbours also showed her experience of the neighbourhood school. Sri Kanchibotla spoke regarding the true value of freedom. The entire programme was presented by the students of classes V and VIII under the able guidance of Sri. Saitejas (Music) & Sri Suryanarayana Rao (dance) and the class teachers of classes V and VIII.
