August 21 - well whoda thunk it, 10 to eight and the boards chockers! Daves looking for a hair transplant so he can pull some out or at least make a show of it for those wholl miss out tonight. This gigs so good its b a aad - love it. So . . . Alfa dog tonight, Greg (Coombsy) opened with a selection from his vast list - hes got a few, all briskly danceable. Good start Greg. First 5 tonight, acoustic solos as has been the pattern. You know, at this rate, we could kick off earlier cos acoustic players would go well with late diners - maybe fit in another couple. Anyway, David followed Greg with his usual superb performance then handed over to Maria. Fourth time I reckon for Maria and shes again trotted out a list never before heard at open mic E&OE! This is all so refreshing but what a task - new songs every week. Keep em coming Maria. Heather keeps them fresh too, original tunes in her distinctive style make for an enjoyable performance. Songstress Elise has about thrown off her rock chick persona (thered be a few here whod not have seen that guise). Id like to see a comeback from time to time but meanwhile the chanteuse will do very well. Top gig again Elise. Imagine weve had an intermission and are now in the back half of the show - a new start if you like - and louder! Funny that. GJ Sound (dont know if Dave made a chalky typo here or perhaps G n J have reverted). Doesnt matter the Sound are on board, Garry and I lending a hand for a selection, Radiohead, Croce, Beatles, Jordan. How broad is that! Good one team. Mal took centre stage, Gazzz and I hung around and Graeme joined us - a typical Mal feast. That classic Angels tune does it for me, love the audience participation. Well led Mal. New friend Peter had a go, a solo effort that won the crowd and had a few of us inspired to join in. We didnt. Reckon Pete will be part of a pop-up band here pretty quickly. Mind you, Zep songs will usually win followers. Another new friend, Froot Loopy, delighted the audience with a wonderful selection from earlier cabaret/music hall times. She invited audience participation and it demonstrated how well known some of that old stuff remains even today. A pre-Morrison Cleaning Winders and Sweet Violets at the Royal . . . . wow. Keep a look out for Froot Loopy around the traps. A brief nod to some that didnt get a gig tonight, Dan, Jac, Colin, Marco, SA Michael (on the board early), Kim - both stepping aside for others. I believe there were perhaps a further 2 or 3, please come again. Also great to see saxy Kym Mitchell after a long absence likewise Joe from Little Fish. Boy! shame these guys left their instruments behind it could have been a BLAST (and very, very late). And so it was that CWS, Chuck had a turn. Hes got some great tunes under his belt and is always entertaining. Trev followed and with a good set planned, studiously avoided Cash songs for a time but the pressure became too much or maybe he was frightened, anyway he added some Cash due to popular demand (gee, that bloke was really insistant). All too soon the time was gone and Greg stepped in to wind up. With a few of us backing, Greg had time for only a couple and we were done. A strong finish Greg and well hosted all night. Onya. See ya next week.
