Aurora battles two house fires within 24 hours: 1) Firefighters responded to a reported structure fire in the 0-100 block of Jackson Street at 7:15 PM, Thursday, January 1, 2015. Arriving fire companies found the back porch of a single family residence on fire. Fire extended into the home, causing extensive damage to the kitchen. 6 fire companies fought the fire. The fire was brought under control at 7:30 PM. There were no reported injuries to any firefighters or occupants. Damages to the structure are estimated at $25,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Aurora Fire Department Arson Team. 2) Firefighters responded to a reported structure fire in the 700 block of Kane Street at 12:40 PM, Friday, January 02, 2015. Arriving fire companies found smoke coming from an unoccupied residence. Firefighters forced entry into the home, located the fire in a utility room, and quickly extinguished it. A passerby noticed smoke coming from the residence, and notified the fire department. 6 fire companies fought the fire. The fire was brought under control at 12:50 PM. There were no reported injuries to any firefighters. Damages to the residence are estimated at $25,000. The cause of the fire appears to be the hot water heater. The home is uninhabitable and the residents are staying with family.
