Author, public historian and IWPA member Cynthia Ogorek will be a featured speaker Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Wolf Lake Initiative’s annual Winter Wonderland. She will be discussing her latest research into the history of the Chicago neighborhood of Hegewisch .” For four years, Hegewisch, located on the citys southeast side of Chicago, was an independent company town founded by the United States Rolling Stock Co. USRSC was a New Jersey corporation organized in 1871 and led for the first two years by General George B. McClellan, former commander of the Army of the Potomac during the Civil War. Ogorek is scheduled to speak at 1:30 p.m. at the William Powers State Fish & Wildlife Area visitors center at Avenue O and 126th Place, Chicago. She will also be at the Authors Corner where she will sign copies of her book, Along the Calumet River (Arcadia), which features the history of the river in the Hegewisch area and across the Calumet region. Ogorek frequently makes presentations and tours on a variety of historic topics of both local and national interest. Her other books include the award-winning Along the Chicago South Shore and South Bend Rail Line and The Lincoln Highway Around Chicago.
