Autism affects more and more families. I have been researching the link between gut health and mental health, and will share more on that soon. For now, I wanted to share this heartfelt letter that I recently received from a listener.. I am deeply grateful to know my music has such a nurturing influence. See below.. Makana (From a listener): THANK YOU!!! Please read.... In 2006 I had the pleasure of meeting you at a (private) event you played at. You amazed us all with your music and charming personality. It was my favorite part of the whole trip. When I returned to my room your CD was waiting and it quickly became a staple in our household. Flash forward 4 years-- In 2010 I gave birth to my first son. We had worked for 6 years trying to get pregnant and spent every last penny on IVF to have him. It was the best choice ever. We now know why he came to us and not somebody else. Last year, when he turned 3 yrs old we confirmed that he has special needs-- the most obvious being that he is Autistic. We wanted to share with you that out of everything in world that he could choose to listen to, he always listens to your CD we received all of those years ago. It is so calming for him that he will ask to listen to it when he is having a rough day or has had major anxiety over something. He wants to listen to it at bedtime and asks to bring it in the car. When he gets stressed out he asks for Hawaiian and that is when we know he needs his headphones and a quiet place to relax. This CD has been the best gift we have received next to our son. Without it we wouldnt be as successful raising him. (That is the truth!) I wanted to share this info with you because I am not sure how much you realize what your music can do for people. As an emotional mom I want to express my gratitude to you for sharing your talent with the world... not the least of it with my sweet son. You have unknowingly brought peace, joy and beauty into our home at some of the most stressful, awkward moments that having a special needs child can bring. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. We sincerely appreciate you even more now than we imagined we would 8 years ago. Thank you for your art and your passion. We appreciate you.
