BARANGAY CONSULTATION IN SALAPINGAO – Together with the department heads of city hall, I visited Barangay Salapingao on January 20, for the Barangay Consultation Dialogue. It is my my mission to “bring the government closer to the people” and I want every Dagupeno to be a participating member of the city; creating solutions and identifying programs which will benefit the community. For todays assembly, the residents of Barangay Salapingao were Of course, we also gave importance to the barangays sumisigays or fishermen, who are a vital part of our community. We have already provided 50 bancas, 19 motorboats, oyster rafts, high-value fish cages, and other fishing equipment to the sector for them to improve their livelihood. The fishermen were very active in the consultation, giving out their ideas and concerns, as well as sharing their stories to me. With City Agriculturist Emma Molina, I want our local fishermen to have a better life and we are planning to provide them additional livelihood programs. The objective of this assembly is also for the local government to have a first-hand knowledge concerning the needs and problems in the grassroots level. It is also one way of addressing your needs immediately and also to make sure that services are being rendered to each member of the community. Joining me for the barangay consultation were City Engineer Virginia Rosario, City Legal Officer George Mejia, City Health Officer Dr. Leonard Carbonell, City Population Officer Alex De Venecia, City Nutrition Officer and City Social Welfare and Development OIC Leah Aquino, Civil Registry Officer Digna Liwanag, City Treasurer Romelita Alcantara, and City Agriculturist Emma Molina. Rosario addressed the infrastructure needs of the barangay while Liwanag talked about the free registration of unregistered births. In the same forum, Alcantara reminded delinquent property owners to pay their taxes. Meanwhile, Aquino shared the LGUs focus on social services, such as feeding and livelihood programs for indigents.
