BEAR SPIRITUAl FRUIT (1) In the third of the six petitions in Colossians 1:9-14,Paul prays that the believers in Colosse might be fruitful in every good work. Spiritual fruit is the first proof of spiritual life within. James says that faith, if it hath not works, is dead,being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works; shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works....faith without works is dead In other words,Christians are to be perennial fruit-bearers,manifesting good works as evidence of their right relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Sometimes Christians emphasize so much that works have no place in their salvation, that they forget they are saved to do good works--believers are created in Christ Jesus unto good works,which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them ( Eph 2:10) It is not the works of the flesh, but the fruit of the spirit-not one of the Spirit-fruit named in Galatians 5:22-23 can be bought,earnd or secured through human effort. No matter how much we try to do good,be good,or live good,we will fail to bear the fruit of the Spirit. We can only have it if we live in the Spirit....walk in the Spirit ( Gal 5:25 ). We cannot buy love,joy, or peace--they are the gracious gifts of God through the Holy Spirit.Let us thank Him for His gifts.
