BENIN - Edo Forum, comprising leaders and traditional rulers from the three senatorial districts of Edo State, has commenced mobilisation ahead of the proposed national conference with a view to coming up with a position paper for the state. The forum, in a statement, said it believes that the proposed dialogue will afford all ethnic groups in the country the opportunity to participate in the formation of an acceptable constitution for Nigerians, hence the need for the elite, political leaders, youths and traditional rulers in the state to participate. The statement by Chief Joseph Arogundade, Chief Sylvanus Usifo and Victor Osarenren, also frowned at the financial state of the country, which according to them had led to the inability of some states and local governments to meet their financial obligations. The statement said: The meeting also agreed to consult widely with major actors from critical stakeholders, especially the government, traditional institutions, political parties, the clergy, women and youth groups. It is to weigh the options available in making necessary input from an Edo peoples position for the forthcoming national conference that will hopefully lead to the enactment of a genuine peoples constitution and continuous well being of the nation. It also resolved that it would soon warehouse all shades of opinion of Edo people within and outside the state towards presenting a united position at the conference. This will be without prejudice to efforts being made by the Edo Forum for a Midwest agenda to be articulated by leaders of the defunct Midwest region.
