BERT SHIRLEY & SHIRLEY PASKE (CLASS OF 1970 SENIOR CELEBS AND YEARBOOK CO-EDITORS Bert Shirley was very very laid back. Our advisor, Mr. Boyd, was always teasing Shirley for being so gullible. They made a fine team. Under their watch, I was able to slip in the 2nd photo which made Mr. Fenske go ballistic! Thats Bob Sanchez shooting up, Tom Nelson, George Salvador, and ASB Pres. Dom Martin with a bottle of hydrochloric acid. In the back of the annual, we had pages of advertising. A group of my classmates decided to chip in and buy a half page ad. Adam Hernandez, myself, David Paiz, Ed Yoshida, Vernon Kuhns, Hampton Miller, and Steve Mitchell went over to the Temple Sheriffs Station and had our photo taken behind bars! The caption was going to be: SENIOR PERSONALITIES SET EXAMPLES. Mr. Fenske caught this and demanded to know who was behind this. I told him that we were just trying to be humorous. He said the ad was totally unacceptable and demanded that it be pulled. So I pulled it. I was pissed, so I wanted to leave something for Mr. Fenske. Look at the group photo of the girls softball team. Read the name of the last person in the first row! It was yearbook policy to try and identify everyone in the photo. When we couldnt and were pressed with a deadline, Mr. Boyd suggested harmless names like Farla Faceless and Narla Noname. I took advantage of that!
