BJP’s plan for Mission 272+ activated: Saraswat Panigrahi. BJP has set the ambitious target of winning 272 plus seats in the ensuing 2014 election. To make the ‘Mission 272+’ a success, BJP Central Election Committee Chairman Modi has exhorted the party leaders to do an in depth and comprehensive planning and execution. This includes strengthening party organisation and support base from the grass roots, reaching out to the prospective voters from all segments and age groups and more importantly, tapping into young and first-time voters. A mammoth list of 100 leaders belonging to 20 election committees are working vigorously to take the party’s 2014 campaign forward. But the real battle will be fought on the ground in the States. And the battle will be won if each State Election Committee is led by a good lieutenant. First, the party has to concentrate on the upcoming Assembly election in crucial States like Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. It is crucial that the BJP win Rajasthan and regain Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Similarly, the party has to win Delhi and gain its ground in Mizoram. Second, the tough task for the BJP lies in wining over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. With Narendra Modi leading BJP’s 2014 campaign, winning Bihar is a battle not so tough for the party. In Uttar Pradesh, by making party general secretary Amit Shah as in charge of the State, the BJP is all set for a take off. Shah, known as a master strategist, has the capability to revive the BJP’s fortune in Uttar Pradesh, a State which has 80 Lok Sabha seats. Here the party must thoroughly expose the minority communal card played by Congress-Mulayam-Maya trio. Third, the real battle lies, however, in winning more Lok Sabha seats BJP has to really concentrate on working hard in States like West Bengal, where the party’s presence is nil and in Odisha, where the party lies in a dormant state. In Odisha, State known for its anti-Congress flavour, BJP’s turnaround is possible if party gives the electoral responsibility to Bijoy Mohapatra, a man having a pan-Odisha appeal and one who has the potential to break the rivals. Similarly the party has to concentrate on southern States of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. In Karnataka, where the party lost the Assembly election to Congress, it has to put its house in order. First thing first, the party must bring former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa back into its fold. The recent Hyderabad rally of Narendra Modi was huge success and by following on that success, the BJP should organise more such rallies in the south and find new strategies. Speculation is rife that the UPA might favour an early general election. The reason — losses by Congress in Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram are imminent. Whether Congress likes it or not, I must say the party will certainly not like to carry forward the impact of that loss to the general election. Congress gifted country a series of scams. UPA which first indulged in corruption, has left no stone unturned in covering it up. Thanks to economic mismanagement under the leadership of the economist Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the nation is suffering an economic downslide. The country’s internal and external security is under severe threat under the Congress-led UPA. The mother-son duo who hold the apex leadership in Congress have become the nation’s laughing stock. The nation is restless for change, the mood is strongly against Congress and the BJP is the only viable alternative. The BJP must filter down the message.
