BRRRRRding! MDC staff and volunteers participated in the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count at Hi-Lonesome Prairie Conservation Area and areas around Cole Camp earlier this week. This volunteer effort across the country runs from mid-December through early January. Birders count all the birds they see in portions of 15-mile diameter circles placed across the country by the Audubon Society. Small groups of volunteers have a designated route and log many walked and driven miles looking for and counting all the birds that they see in one day.
