BUKOLA SARAKI: A Dealer, Not a Leader SALIHU OLAWALE SALIHU swadontop@gmail If you want to know the real definition of Bukola Saraki, you will have to go through this article. There is a biblical account which captures the story of children of Israel who desired a king to lead them like other nations. God, without any ambiguity, explain to the people through his prophet, the intensify havoc the leader would unleash on them. “The king will draft your sons and assign them to his chariots, and his characters, making them run before his chariots. Some will be forced to plough in his fields and harvest his crops.......... He will take away the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his own officials. He will take a tenth of your grain and your grape harvest and distribute it among his officers and attendant………. He will demand a tenth of your flocks and you will be his slaves.........” SAMUEL (1) VERSE (8) The above quoted verse depicts the true picture of Bukola Saraki and Kwara politics. In 2003, after a prolonged battering between the duos of late Governor Muhammad Alabi Lawal and late Dr. Olusola Saraki, voices from all over the nooks and crannies clamoured for a new leader (governor) but unfortunate the former cried and wept for us. Dishearteningly, however, such a new “leader” has become a dealer and reckless and feckless business man and whose modus operandi is to make money off government and subject our people to untold hardship. Government in our own Kwara is very chubby cash-cow that spews out quick cash in all currencies, an ever flowing fountain of free money and a money churning chute. Do you wonder why the so called “leader” did not want to leave the government house after spending his eight years as governor? Working with our own “leader” is like working with a devil as you must go into spiritual binding not to betray him. The dealership scourge and plague that have been etched in the spite of Kwarans have become unacceptable norm. The dealer called “leader” is prepped up ignoramus and perfectly killing this state. He has duplicitous characters and audacious cruel arrogance, a devil whose mind has travelled far away from saneness. He slither through the cracks and crevices of governments ranging from state, senatorial, local and council governments, wheeling, dealing, digging, and gaping holes for the future Kwarans. Many Kwarans never heard of the notorious pension scheme the dealer lured our house of assembly which members are dogmatic slaves of the dealer to pass in his favour. A bill passed into law of this poor state provides him a pension for life at a rate and structure of inexplicably despicable One Hundred Million Naira (N100,000,000) monthly for a mega-senator and a former governor when other pensioners who worked for over 70% of their lives cannot boast of a Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000). I did not bother to research other indoor looting of this dealer to save myself of the tensional headache that will surely follow. I am not sure if we are aware of the largesse which this dealer grossly, portly, perkily and plum ply realized from the sales and privatization of our joint properties by the creation of Harmony Holdings. Have we ever taken our time to ask where the proceeds of various state establishments are going? I mean our sold hectares of lands, College of Aviation, Kwara Diagnostic Centre, KWASU, Tsonga Farms, Shoprite etc all these are established with public funds but today the dealer comes back to claim that he lent loans to the state to bring these projects to realities and the premium this present administration and the entire Kwarans are now paying. I wonder, “Maigida” could not make reference to tangible project for the past three years. I fear if Fatai Ahmed will not regret ever being the governor of Kwara state when he looks back and see his own failure as Bukola Saraki is just a plain and desperate dealer and not a leader. In the misery mind of this dealer called leader, any one striving to do right or liberate the people and live by the rules belong to the thunder heads and hare brained; but he is wrong. We will soon break away from the cage of serfdom built by this dealer. Harry Truman said: “in period where there is no leadership, society stands still; progress occurs when courageous and skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better”. Kwara state is not standing still compare to other states that were created in 1967; we are sliding backward off a perilous precipice into the Hades. This state is on fire and our dealers (Bukola Saraki and Maigida) act as if all is well.
