BWSPORTS: WONDER SPORTING BECOMES POLICE XI, UNVEILS P1M SPONSORSHIP Mompati Tlhankane reporting for BOPA Wonder Sporting have announced their change of name to Police XI and unveiled a P1 million sponsorship from Botswana Insurance Brokers. The sponsorship, which will last a period of two years, would cover training equipment, playing kits, soccer boots and away travel expenses. Police XI chairperson, Solomon Mantswe welcomed the sponsorship, saying it came at the right time as the league was becoming more competitive. “This sponsorship will enhance our ability to compete,” he said. Botswana Insurance Brokers chief executive officer, Alfred Tembo said the sponsorship was part of their contribution to professionalisation of football in Botswana. He said his company would assist Police XI to professionalise their operations. Botswana Football Association (BFA) president, Tebogo Sebego commended Botswana Insurance Brokers for setting a good trend and contributing to the corporate identity of the game. He also applauded Police XI for their resilience and hard work, saying they managed to bounce back after facing hardships in the past. Police XI bounced back as Wonder Sporting after they were de-registered from the premier league for failing to pay subscriptions in 2012. The club was also ordered to release players registration books. Wonder Sporting inherited the players and Police XI’s development structures. The two teams later merged and their request to change their name to Police XI was approved.
