Barclays Premier League 2013/14 - Bony’s Swansea punished by United Wilfried Bony scored in his Premier League debut as his side Swansea City suffered a 4-1 loss against Manchester United. The Ivorian came off the bench at half time and eventually found the back of the net, but Robin Van Persie and Danny Welbeck scored a brace each as the defending champions sent out early warning signals to their rivals. The Red Devils asked the questions early on with Phil Jones drilling the ball towards goal from the right side of the box in the 8th minute, but his shot was parried over the crossbar by Michel Vorm. Ten minutes later Welbeck drew another save from the Swansea goalkeeper from just inside the box, but Gigs could not capitalise on the rebound, firing his shot wide of the upright. The Swans threatened in the 23rd minute as Michu hustled for possession inside the box before forcing a save from David De Gea; the Spaniard almost profited from the resulting corner but his header went wide. The opening goal arrived in the 34th minute as Van Persie made a good run inside the box to control a lobbed pass from Giggs before smashing the ball past the exposed goalkeeper. The lead was doubled just two minutes later as Antonio Valencia controlled a cross from Patrice Evra on the right before squaring the ball from Welbeck to finish with an easy tap-in. David Moyes’ side almost extended their advantage in the 69th minute from a corner, but Evra’s powerful header was cleared off the line by Jose Canas. Two minutes later it was Michael Laudrup’s side that came close to halving the deficit when Pablo Hernandez picked out Angel Rangel on the right, but his volley went just wide of goal. The hosts were punished for that miss in the 72nd minute when Van Persie collected a pass from Wayne Rooney and made us of the space he was offered to curl his shot into top left corner. Bony missed a good chance in the 81st minute, sending his header wide from close range, but the Ivorian made up for it a minute later as he collected a pass from Hernandez before placing his low shot past De Gea. However, it was the away side who had the last say in added time as Welbeck latched onto a pass from Rooney before chipping the ball over Vorm to complete his brace.
