Be Wild. Be Like ZAWA TOMORROW IS WORLD TOURISM DAY! As we join the rest of the world to commemorate world tourism day tomorrow, Saturday, September 27, 2014, The Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) would like to invite you to the official commemorative event and exhibition to be held at the Kabwata Cultural Village in Lusaka. The event is being organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Arts, ZAWA, the Zambia Tourism Board (ZTB), Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (HTTI) and other stakeholders. This year’s World Tourism Day is being held under the theme, “Tourism and Community Development”, and Minister of Tourism and Arts Hon. Jean Kapata will be guest of honour. In line with the theme, ZAWA would like to re-affirm its commitment to continue working with communities in Game Management and open areas in the development and management of the tourism assets. ZAWA is proud to say that the Zambia Wildlife Act of 1998, mandates the Authority to work with communities through the 74 Community Resource Boards (CRBs) countrywide, based on the Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) model. The CBNRM model provides policy direction on how communities in wildlife areas should be engaged in the management of wildlife and ZAWA committed to the effective implementation of this model. There is also currently an arrangement in place where revenues are equally shared between ZAWA and the communities at a 50 per cent basis. And guidelines have been formulated to ensure that the funds given to CRBs are properly administered and accounted for to ensure economic and tourism development in these areas. SEE YOU THERE!
