Because I want a Joseph Smalzer jersey and I think more people should know about this awesome Blog. How I got my # for volleyball... I was always #2 going into college and it worked out just perfectly having the #2 Jeff Wooten just graduated. Before the roster was created both myself and another Freshman, Luke Shea and Paul Lotman (Sophomore) talked about wanting #2 as it was all of are favorite number. When we had our first meeting for Long Beach State, the roster was printed and there it was, #2 Dustin Watten. I looked at Luke across the room and gave him a dumb smirk, that only a libero would do as we listened to the team rules, etc... At the end of the meeting Knipe asked if there was guys that wanted to change to an available number or any returners that wanted to change theres. By now I knew #2 was mine, it was locked up and I was happier then I could possibly be knowing out of the 3 guys I was able to get it by chance. Except, Lotman raised is hand.. said he wanted to change his number to #2. Knipe said, okay, Dustin what do you want for your new number? Lotman turned to me and smiled, an even bigger, more absurd smile that I had earlier shared with Luke as I uttered #3 as my face and tone paled. And now Im #3 and Paul is still #2, just waiting for the day where we get to play together and pass 2man, listen to house music and argue with each other about trivial things :)
