Beethovens 7th Movement 2 Part 1 on the 4D Chromatic Spiral Attention: 3D glasses (red/cyan red/green or red/blue) or 4D (red/cyan/yellow) enhance the experience, but are not necessary. This is a visual representation of the first 3 minutes of the 2nd Movement of Beethovens 7th Symphony. The idea is that the 12 chromatic notes of the scale are represented by the 12 points of a circle like a clock. The notes spiral forward and out as the notes get higher in pitch. The octaves line up so two notes at 12 oclock are both C but one may be one cycle down the spiral and so an octave lower. The Stringed instruments are represented by yellow, the Winds by white and the Horns by purple. The common patterns in this piece are the chord shapes A minor, E major, G, C, B, and Bm. Minor chords make a triangle 3-4-5, for example, Am is A, up 3 notes to C, up 4 to E and up 5 to return to A. Major is a 4-3-5 triangle. Interestingly, as Pythagoras is known as the Father of Music, this echoes the Pythagoraen Theorem. The Chromatic Spiral also echoes Goethes and Newtons illustrations mapping a colour wheel to musical notes. The difference here is that those three characters only worked with 7 notes of the octave and 7 colours.
