Being a marketer, I love the fact that ALS (AKA Lou Gehrig’s disease) awareness has been brought to light by an initiative that has gone “viral” - both offline and online - and organically, ie. the “good kind” of peer pressure. I have followed the national story on the US news since early July when it gave birth in Boston. I also like the fact that this campaign - love it or hate it - has created change in people and has stirred some kind of philanthropic action, even if it’s not for THIS cause. All marketers wish they could come up with something this viral for their cause/client. And lets face it, it doesnt hurt to see strapping male friends take off their shirts and get wet!!! ALS has affected/s 2 people I know and in both cases, has made me pause – my old gym teacher from college who lost his battle 4 years ago, Tony Proudfoot, and an old friend. So, because everyone’s sick of seeing their friends dump ice on their heads, I will spare you, make my little $$ contribution dedicated to Bill Shannon and enlighten you with a positive article. onforb.es/1pFhRtm Tara Durley - thanks for the challenge!!! Gary Shannon - YOU ARE UP. als.ca/en/donate #icebucketchallenge #StrikeOutALS ALS Canada
