Big-spending title favourites Spalding United have signed the hottest shot in United Counties League football. Andrew Tidswell plundered 34 goals when helping the Tulips’ local rivals Holbeach United to the Premier Division crown last season. Now he has followed in the footsteps of three of his title-winning Tigers team-mates, Jamie Stevens, Jonny Allen and Adam Jackson, by moving along the A151. Tidswell, who had a spell at Spalding earlier in his career, has snubbed interest from a host of other UCL clubs. He is one of three new signings revealed today by Spalding boss Pat Rayment. Central defender Nathan Stainfield and striker Sam Mullarkey have also arrived at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field. Stainfield has dropped down three levels after turning down a new deal at Blue Square Bet North outfit Boston United. He excelled at this level for Bourne Town a few years ago. Mullarkey spent his formative years in the Nottingham Forest youth set-up and lists Stamford AFC among his former clubs. UCL Premier Division newcomers Wisbech Town have captured a former Spalding player. Teenage wideman Tom James, who spent two-thirds of last season with the Tulips, has signed for the Fenmen. James also played for Deeping last term.
