Bittersweet Day. After 33 years of continuous Fire Department - TopicsExpress

Bittersweet Day. After 33 years of continuous Fire Department service, the last 18 years as full time and the last 6 as Chief of Washington Township Fire Rescue, my fire career came to an end this evening. I have accepted the position of Village Administrator in Georgetown. I want to thank every firefighter I have ever had the pleasure to work with or to meet. I have the utmost respect for all of you and you are all family to me. Everything I have done in the fire service I have done to the best of my ability in hopes of making the service stronger and safer for each of you. I have served in Clermont County for these 33 years and in the process made some really good friends. I appreciate everything you have all done for me. Thanks to all the Chiefs that helped me find my way when I became a new Chief. I just ask one thing of all of you. Please take the time to share your knowledge with new recruits and help ensure a stronger safer tomorrow for all Firefighter / EMTs. The fire service is truly a family and I want to see it remain as such. Teach them the traditions of the fire service and what it means to respect the job. I am truly one blessed man because I have never had to look at my career as a job, it was my calling and my love. Thanks to Bethel-Tate Fire Department for allowing this 14 year old boy the chance to make his childhood dream a reality. Thanks to Washington Township for believing in me and taking a chance on me as Fire Chief. I have one amazing ride and I wouldnt change a thing. I love the fire service as much today as I did when I was a 5 year old boy clutching a new toy fire truck under the Christmas tree. Robert Hauck, though you are now reaping the rewards of heaven, I want you to know how much I love you and appreciate the chance you gave me. Throughout my career I often asked myself, What would Bob do right now? Our conversations over a big boy and a pepsi gave me a lot of guidance and I miss you. To all my Washington Township firefighters. Thank you for always making me look good. I will miss all of you and love you guys dearly. GOOD LUCK TO ALL FIREFIGHTERS, I WILL MISS YOU. I RESPECT YOU ALL VERY MUCH. Chief 66 signing off.
