Blood Bath Critiques often point to the Crusades and other bloody events to denounce Christianity as a religion of violence. Indeed, the actions by some over-zealous enthusiasts of the past have tarnished the name and reputation of Christ; however Jesus’ shed blood is an essential undeniable component of the Christian faith. In Ephesians 2:13 we learn that Christ’s blood brings those far off near to God. His blood grants forgiveness of sin (Colossians 1:14.) This same blood justifies and saves us from God’s wrath (Romans 5:9.) and 1 John 1:7 declares that it cleanses us from ALL sin. His blood is a big deal. As a kid growing up in church, we sang the old hymn ARE YOU WASHED IN THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB, written by Elisha Hoffman. Though I didn’t pay sufficient attention to the words back then, it asks several essential questions we Christians should always be considering: “Are your garments spotless are they white as snow? Are you walking daily by the Savior’s side? Do you rest each moment in the crucified? When the bridegroom cometh will your robes be white? Will your soul be ready for the mansions bright? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?” Are you? Do you? Will you be ready? If not why not spend some time letting Him cleanse you from all sin. Only Christ can restore your eternal relationship with our Heavenly Father? His blood alone is the purifying agent. Have great day!
