Brian Tagtmeier, one of my Rice compadres, tasked me not only with the Number 8, but also called on me to make my list colorful. So, here goes, Eight colorful things you may not know about me: 1. RED is the color of spicy foods, which I adore - Thai Hot is a description best used when the phrase isnt even on the menu. But you knew that. What you didnt know is that before I went to college, the opposite was true - mild was wild. One compelled jalapeño eating contest at Orientation, and the Texas transformation had occurred! 2. ORANGE is for Orange County Bar Association, which I am (for better or worse!) going to be president of next year. What you didnt know was the Rice Conspiracy on the timing. My friend and only other Rice Lawyer that Im aware of in Orlando, Bill Davis, is going to be president of the Orange County Legal Aid Society Board next year. Deep in Florida, 2014 is the Year of the Owl! 3. YELLOW is the color of the chips that George Costanza double-dipped. And which I referenced by name, complete with bluebook cite, in a throw-away argument in an appellate brief to the 5th DCA. Bonus: we won the appeal, on that issue! All hail Judge Griffin, wise jurist and Seinfeld fan. 4. GREEN is, and always has been, my favorite color. 5. BLUE is the common denominator between my Orange and Blue Gators and my Blue and Gray Owls. What many dont know is that if the two ever played, as diehard a Gator as I am, Id be at the game with my Blue and Gray rooting for Rice to score first. There was actually a shot for the two to play each other in the Liberty Bowl (C-USA #1 vs. SEC #8); Rice is doing its part, my Gators not so much! 6. INDIGO is the color that made me lose a bet to my fellow Floridian Rice roomie, Med Im not on Facebook Kelley when he insisted the spectrum, newly defined, had but six colors. He was right - then - but that was before I became a Wikipedia editor to revise it back to the original seven! (While one the subject, Pluto is so a planet!) 7. VIOLET is a character of Peanuts, still one of my favorite comic strips. Which may not mix well with the sardonic Dilbert or Pearls Before Swine, but eclecticism works in all things art, says me. (Speaking of which, finally new Doonesbury today, hooray!) 8. ULTRAVIOLET is a song by U2, the main draw in what ranks as my favorite concert to date when I saw them with Woody Rodriguez and our better halves in Miami. My turn-in-my-man-card secret is that I didnt purchase the U2 tix until the opening band was announced: Florence and the Machine. Soft spot for women who rock have I, and her transcendence combined with Bono and Co.s universal awesomeness was too much to miss. There it is - a list so colorful it wouldnt even fit on a spectrum. The way the meme is supposed to turn is that you would get assigned a number by me if you like this status. Dont worry: to quote another meme, aint nobody got time for that. So like if you want; if you want me to assign you a number, you have to ask me for one!
